Recently a friend was asking about some of the songs on Keith's CD, "Creaky Hingles" and he wondered about the story behind the songs. The inspiration of "It's a Blast" came from an experience of an uncle of Keith's back in Arkansas many years ago. Here are the words:
IT’S A BLAST
Unk said you don’t need no hook, line or pole
You just need a boat, dynamite and a fishin’ hole
He handed me the dynamite the fuse was lit and hissin’
He said boy you gonna sit there or you gonna do some fishin’
IT WAS A BLAST, FROM THE PAST
WE DID SOME FISHIN’, IT WAS A BLAST
It was a sunny day couldn’t a been much hotter
We filled our sacks with fish that floated on the water
I liked this new way of fishin’ it had it’s appeal
Fillin’ up our boat with fish was quite a thrill
CHORUS
Later on we were gonna fry us a big pan of fish
With corn bread, turnip greens and every kind of dish
When we first got there, we put our watermelons in the creek
So they’d cool down real nice before we all went to eat
CHORUS
Yeh the sheriff came along in his face I saw suspicion
He said, boys what’s you’ll doing out here fishin’
He said, I can see you’ alls the best fisherman around
But to my regret I got to take you both down town
Unk said you don’t need no hook, line or pole
You just need a boat, dynamite and a fishin’ hole
He handed me the dynamite the fuse was lit and hissin’
He said boy you gonna sit there or you gonna do some fishin’
IT WAS A BLAST, FROM THE PAST
